Revised Schedule

We have some new engagements now posted, so have a look at our schedule. We are also looking to schedule some workshops in how to cut silhouette portraits and other papercutting skills, for the summer months. Most folks seem to prefer Saturdays, and in the spring and fall, our Saturdays are taken up with shop engagements, but we can also do Sunday afternoons. Please send me an email if you are interested, and I will see what we can work out. Possible dates include June 14 and/or 27, and the week after July 4. Now here is our latest schedule:

New Engagements this Spring

We finally made contact with Tree Top Kids, and they will be hosting us at their 7 DC area shops this Spring, starting in May. I do not as yet have the dates at which I will be at each shop, but you can check with your favorite store or look on their webpage for further information. Meanwhile, I can probably arrange some at home studio appointments in late April, before Mother's Day, so send me an email if you prefer this method, and we will set up a time. I will also be checking with our other favorite shops in DC and Maryland, so watch for news on those dates. I still have to set up a date for a silhouette cutting workshop this Spring, so let me know if you are interested inn learning how to cut portraits! Meanwhile, we are still in Arizona, but plan to arrive back in Alexandria around April 16. Sincerely, Anne

Winter 2009

I've been getting lots of phone calls and emails asking for silhouette appointments at my home studio. We are currently in Tucson, AZ at our winter residence, 7769 S. Vivaldi Ct., Tucson, AZ 85747, so cannot book any appointments until we return to Virginia in mid-April. However, if you wish, you may send or email me a side view photo (Jpeg) of your subject and I can make it and send it back to you. Be sure the picture includes the full view of the head and shoulders and clearly shows how the hair falls in the back. (Also include the subject's name, if you wish that signed on the portrait. I also date and initial it.) I prefer the subject facing right, but if it is an email, I can reverse it if it is the wrong direction. (I can't really make a good profile from a front view!) And finally, we can take checks or most credit cards in payment, and I will bill you when it is finished.
I am waiting to hear from the Tree Top Kids stores and our other shops, about when and where they would like us to book appointments this spring. For Mother's Day weekend, we will once more be at the Craft Fair in Doylestown, PA, no appointment necessary. I also have a booking to do a wedding on Saturday, April 25. I can take bookings for weekday engagements at daycare centers and groups of 10-15 children. We have not raised our prices for the past 5 years, and expect to maintain them this year, though the cost of the oval wooden frames is increasing to us.

We look forward to seeing you in the Spring. Here in Arizona, it is warmer than where you are in the Northeast, although we had snow on the ground Tuesday morning--but not enough to shovel! It is in the 30's at night, but getting back to 60's in the daytime.

Studio Appointments

We will be at home,  all done with shows, the week of December 15-20, and can accommodate requests for studio appointments during the hours of 10 and 5.  Please email me or call 703-960-0095 to schedule your appointment.  You can get your portraits made and, if you wish, framed before you leave.  Allow 30[45 minutes, if you want framing done, or if there is more than one person to be portrayed.

Fall, 2008

Somehow there are always more emails to answer than time to edit my blog! I hope my latest calendar will be up soon, but there are some papercutting workshops coming up Very Soon that I want you to know about. I am teaching a children's papercutting workshop this Saturday at the Historical Society of Washington, DC, 1-4 PM. We will be using colorful origami paper to create beautiful snowflake type designs that can be made into spinning tops, as well as some interesting black and white designs called "In and Out" These are simple enough for children ages 8 and up (and maybe younger) to learn to do. The papercutting skills are the same as what we use to make silhouette portraits, scherenschnitte, and other intricate forms of papercutting.

The same type of workshops will be held on Friday, November 28 (day after Thanksgiving) from noon to 4 pm, and also on Saturday, January 3, 10 to 1 and 1 to 4 pm. The latter will be in conjunction with our exhibit in the Del Ray Artisans Gallery at the Nicholas Colisanto Center at 2704 Mount Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA. Both adults and children are welcome to these workshops, with designs to delight all ages. Some scherenschnitte designs will be taught on Jan 3, as well as "try your hand at silhouette portraits"!

Our busy fall schedule of 18th century shows is over, as well as our toy shop appearances around the DC area, but we still have a few interesting appearances, including the Merry Market in Fredericksburg, Va this Sunday, 11-4, and the Shop at the Inn at Little Washington on Dec. 7. Perfect Pair has us coming back on December 5 & 6, and the Homewood Museum in Baltimore hosts us during their Candlelight tours Dec. 13. We wind up by a special engagement at the Inn at Little Washington on New Year's Eve, doing portraits of all the 2nd seating diners that evening, as a part of their booking.

Look for us in Arizona after January 15 until April 15 of 2009, and then we will be back to make the rounds of shops again in the spring.

News for Fall, 2007

If you have looked at my web page recently, you will note that the blog is WAY out of date! We did have silhouette classes last spring and summer, quite successful, with small classes (4-6 people), and hope to have some more soon. Meanwhile, my medical situation is much improved, and I am over most of the treatment, successfully. We have already been heavily engaged in our fall season of shows and shop appearances, and have not been holding studio hours. However, it appears that people are looking for holiday appointments when out of town guests are visiting. So please do call, and we will try to work you into our schedule. Also check out my calendar on the web page, as you may find an appearance close to you.
